Jane Fonda, last month’s ‘feminist hero’ for slamming Trump, now sorry about something

Sun, 10/15/2017 - 12:14

**Written by Doug Powers

Just one month ago, our celebrity betters were back atop their national TV soap box and taking pot shots at one of their favorite targets:

9 to 5’s Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin once again proved that they’re the feminist heroes we need while reuniting at the Emmy Awards.

While presenting an award at Sunday’s gala, the ladies couldn’t help but notice the similarities between the sexist boss played by Dabney Coleman in their beloved movie, and the current occupant of the White House.

“Back in 1980, in that movie, we refused to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot,” Jane Fonda said to a huge applause.

To an even more rapturous response, Lily Tomlin added: “And in 2017, we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot.”

They say things like that to wild applause from like-minded libs who call that courageous, all the while the elephant in the room snickered, because they all knew, including Fonda:

Jane Fonda regrets not speaking up earlier about Harvey Weinstein.

The film star, who is also an active women’s rights advocate, told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Thursday that she “found out about Harvey about a year ago.”

“I’m ashamed that I didn’t say anything right then,” Fonda said.

Side-by-side this perfectly sums up self-righteous, holier-than-thou Hollywood:

Glaring hypocrisy, what a way to make a livin’! At next month’s Academy Awards, will Hollywood have the courage to present a sizable portion of their own industry with a collective Oscar for “Outstanding Achievement in Hypocrisy, Selective Outrage and Denial”? Of course not.

Impeachment of Trump is taking too long so Larry Flynt’s getting involved

Sat, 10/14/2017 - 16:22

**Written by Doug Powers

If you’re keeping score at home regarding what the anti-Trump Resistance is pinning their hopes to, here’s an update…

Out: “Trump colluded with Russia. Impeach!”

In: “Sure hope the Hustler publisher can find something.”

3:30p FBN EXCLSV: @washingtonpost will run a Sun.Hustler Mag's @ImLarryFlynt offers $10m 4 info on @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/6SgK1khFDi

— Liz Claman (@LizClaman) October 13, 2017

Hey, somebody had to fill Harvey Weinstein’s void on the Democrat side, and this guy’s up to the challenge:

In the ad, Flynt calls Trump an “illegitimate” president who “was installed only by the quirks of our antiquated Electoral College.”

Flynt cites several reasons he believes Trump should be impeached in the ad, including Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey and his withdrawal of the United States from the Paris climate change agreement.

That’ll sound great at the impeachment hearing:

“The impeachment trial for President Donald Trump is hereby convened. Please read the charge.”

“Smut peddler doesn’t like the Electoral College.”

Good luck with that!

Hillary: We need *open & honest sexual assault discussion (*that does NOT mention Bill)

Fri, 10/13/2017 - 23:31

**Written by Doug Powers

In an interview on the BBC, Hillary Clinton tried to remind everybody that the statute of limitations on pointing out the Clintons’ shameless hypocrisy has run out. It started out with a question about Harvey Weinstein that Hillary quickly deflected toward Trump, proving that her most recent compunction bypass surgery was another a huge success:

“This kind of behavior cannot be tolerated anywhere, whether it’s in entertainment, politics,” Clinton said. “After all, we have someone admitting to being a sexual assaulter in the Oval Office.”

After saying that “kind of behavior cannot be tolerated,” Hillary went on to tolerate it, but only from her own husband. This is all due to a little-known “in the past” clause in the Clinton rule book:

Marr responded by pointing out Clinton has dismissed allegations made by women against her husband, former President Bill Clinton, that Trump highlighted during the hard-fought presidential campaign.

“That has all been litigated,” Clinton replied. “That was subject of a huge investigation in the late ’90s and there were conclusions drawn. That was clearly in the past.”

So basically Hillary Clinton believes the country needs a serious discussion about sexual harassment and assault, but first everybody should use BleachBit on select chapters of their contemporary American history books. This is what happens when you can’t blame inconvenient realities on the Russians:

The only thing that could have made that better would have been a follow-up question about Anthony Weiner.

Here’s a Weinstein talking point just waiting to be picked up by the left

Fri, 10/13/2017 - 16:40

**Written by Doug Powers

A University of Southern California student newspaper op-ed has established blame for Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood mogul and Dem mega-donor/bundler who backed Hillary Clinton twice and visited Obama in the White House several times (via Twitchy):

And yes, the actual column is everything you’re imagining:

For years, that social and political disenfranchisement has been propagated by the party that unapologetically handed Trump the presidency, where, at the very least, Democratic stars and politicians have come out in droves to unequivocally disavow Weinstein. For years, policies and rhetoric by Republican lawmakers related to American women have been united by a common theme — that women cannot be trusted.

Following core conservative ideology, women cannot be trusted to make basic bodily decisions; instead, the government must make these decisions for them and hamper their access to the resources requisite to their autonomy.

It all makes even more sense when you discover at the end of the article that the author is a journalism major. A glorious career in the MSM awaits!

Women’s March kicking patriarchy in crotch with Bernie Sanders as convention opener

Fri, 10/13/2017 - 07:33

**Written by Doug Powers

Thought experiment in October 2017: You’re a progressive women’s organization searching for a high profile female in politics to open your convention — one who wasn’t overly backed by Harvey Weinstein so it doesn’t look too hypocritical — who do you call? Bernie Sanders, apparently:

We are so excited to have @SenSanders join us at the #WomensConvention October 27-29th in Detroit! https://t.co/UssiTSe2IN

— Women's March (@womensmarch) October 12, 2017

Feminists aren’t thrilled at all, but I fully expect Sanders to use his speech as an opportunity to describe why not nearly enough females go into the field of progressivism/socialism, as evidenced by the fact that the Women’s March had to have their convention kicked off by a man:

Organizers behind the Women’s Convention still feel the Bern — and for that, they are feeling the backlash.

On Thursday, the Women’s Convention organizers — who also led the Women’s March in January — announced Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will be a featured speaker at the three-day event, which will take place in Detroit later this month.

The convention “aims to have participants leave inspired and motivated, with new connections, skills and strategies for working towards collective liberation for women of all races, ethnicities, ages, abilities, sexual identities, gender expressions, immigration statuses, religious faiths, and economic statuses,” according to its press release.

Unreliable sources tell me Sanders’ speech to the Women’s March convention is tentatively titled “How to Be a Socialist Anti-Capitalist Public Servant with 3 Homes (Even a Girl Can Do It).” Hmm, there might be an issue there.

Pelosi: Trump’s EO will sabotage O-care (How? She has no idea)

Thu, 10/12/2017 - 20:00

**Written by Doug Powers

Out: We have to pass it to find out what’s in it.

In: He signed it, I still don’t know what’s in it, but I do know it’s awful:

Q: Leader Pelosi, I know the White House hasn’t put out all the details yet, but can you respond to what we know about the President’s executive order on health care that they’re putting out today and what your take is on him doing anything by executive order after essentially failing to get anything through Congress on health care?

Leader Pelosi: Well, I don’t know what he’s putting out today, but I do know it is a sabotage of the Affordable Care Act and, quite frankly, a real disservice to the American people, many of whom voted for him. We’ll have more to say about it when we see actually what he’s putting forth.

Pelosi was taking offense to Donald Trump’s EO signed Thursday:

Congressional Democrats said Thursday that President Trump’s executive order to relax insurance rules is the latest evidence of Republican “sabotage” against Obamacare.

The president signed the order that directs federal agencies to examine regulations that would make it easier for people to band together to get “association health plans” and buy more short-term insurance. Democrats quickly criticized the order as a back door to attack protections for people with pre-existing conditions and increase “junk” insurance plans.

What gives? When Pelosi was cloudy on details about a health insurance initiative just a few years ago we were supposed to assume everything was great:

If Republicans used that approach now and Nancy would flip. For some reason the saying “ain’t no fun when the rabbit got the gun” comes to mind.

What’s worse than the sale of baby parts? A GOPers statement ABOUT selling baby parts

Wed, 10/11/2017 - 19:21

**Written by Doug Powers

The pro-abort Left has its supporters at Twitter, and there’s no better way to confirm that than by looking at what the social media company temporarily flagged as potentially offensive content from Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who’s running for U.S. Senate:

A Senate campaign ad by Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn was blocked on Twitter Monday because of a statement she made in the spot about the sale of fetal tissue for medical research.

Blackburn, a Tennessee representative running to fill the retiring Sen. Bob Corker’s seat, said in the ad that she “stopped the sale of baby parts.”

Twitter told Blackburn’s campaign in an email obtained by Fox News that the line was “deemed an inflammatory statement that is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction.”

The line, in full, states: “I’m 100% pro-life. I fought Planned Parenthood, and we stopped the sale of baby body parts — thank god.”

I don’t know if Twitter noticed, but do they know what also evokes a “strong negative reaction” to comments about selling baby parts? Actually dismembering babies and selling the parts! But no, a statement about it is what’s “inflammatory.”

Twitter eventually backed away from what they considered potentially offensive and allowed Blackburn to use a few words describing what Planned Parenthood considers one of our most cherished rights as Americans.

.@Twitter shut down our video ad, claiming it's "inflammatory" & "negative." Join me in standing up to Silicon Valley → RETWEET our message! pic.twitter.com/K3w4AMgW6i

— Marsha Blackburn (@VoteMarsha) October 9, 2017

With the extra exposure Blackburn got as a result, Twitter basically made an in-kind donation to her Senate campaign. I love irony.

Obama lied. My FOURTH health plan died.

Obama lied. My FOURTH health plan died.
by Michelle Malkin

Cue the funeral bagpipes. My FOURTH health insurance plan is dead.

Two weeks ago, my husband and I received yet another cancellation notice for our private, individual health insurance coverage. It’s our fourth Obamacare-induced obituary in four years. Our first death notice, from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, arrived in the fall of 2013. The insurer informed us that because of “changes from health care reform (also called the Affordable Care Act or ACA),” our plan no longer met the federal government’s requirements.

Never mind our needs and desires as consumers who were quite satisfied with a high-deductible PPO that included a wide network of doctors for ourselves and our two children.

Our second death knell, from Rocky Mountain Health Plans, tolled in August 2015. That notice signaled the end of a plan we didn’t want in the first place that didn’t cover our kids’ dental care and wasn’t accepted at our local urgent care clinic. The insurer pulled out of the individual market in all but one county in Colorado, following the complete withdrawal from that sector by Humana and UnitedHealthcare.

Our third “notice of plan discontinuation,” again from Anthem, informed us that the insurer would “no longer offer your current health plan in the State of Colorado” in August 2016. With fewer and fewer choices as know-it-all Obamacare bureaucrats decimated the individual market here and across the country, we enrolled in a high-deductible Bronze HSA EPO (Health Savings Account Exclusive Provider Organization) offered by Minneapolis-based startup, Bright Health.

Now, here we are barely a year later: Deja screwed times four. Our current plan will be discontinued on Jan. 1, 2018.

“But don’t worry,” Bright Health’s eulogy writer chirped, “we have similar plans to address your needs.”

Riiiiight. Where have I heard those pie-in-the-sky promises before? Oh, yeah. Straight out of the socialized medicine Trojan horse’s mouth. “If you like your doctor,” President Obama promised, “you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.”

Is pathological lying covered under the Affordable Care Act?

Speaking of Affordable Care Act whoppers, so much for “affordable.” Our current deductible is $6,550 per person; $13,100 for our family of four. Assuming we can find a new plan at the bottom of the individual market barrel, our current monthly premium, $944.86, will rise to more than $1,300 a month.

“What’s taking place is a market correction; the free market is at work,” says Colorado’s state insurance commissioner, Marguerite Salazar. “(T)his could be an indication that there were too many options for the market to support.”

This presumptuous central planner called federal intervention to eliminate “too many” options for consumers the free market at work. Yes, friends, the Rocky Mountain High is real.

This isn’t a “market correction.” It’s a government catastrophe. Premiums for individual health plans in Virginia are set to skyrocket nearly 60 percent in 2018. In New Hampshire, those rates will rise 52 percent. In South Carolina, individual market consumers will face an average 31.3 percent hike. In Tennessee, they’ll see rates jump between 20-40 percent.

Private, flexible PPOs for self-sufficient, self-employed people are vanishing by design. The social-engineered future — healthy, full-paying consumers being herded into government-run Obamacare exchanges and severely regulated regional HMOs — is a bipartisan big government health bureaucracy’s dream come true.

These choice-wreckers had the arrogant audacity to denigrate our pre-Obamacare plans as “substandard” (Obama), “crappy” (MSNBC big mouth Ed Schultz) and “junk policies” (Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa). When I first called attention to the cancellation notice tsunami in 2013, liberal Mother Jones magazine sneered that the phenomenon was “phony.” And they’re still denying the Obamacare death spiral. Liberal Vox Media recently called the crisis “a lie.”

I don’t have enough four-letter words for these propagandists. There are an estimated 450,000 consumers like us in Colorado and 17 million of us nationwide — small-business owners, independent contractors and others who don’t get their plans through group coverage, big companies or government employers. The costs, headaches and disruption in our lives caused by Obamacare’s meddling meddlers are real and massive.

But we’re puzzles to corporate media journalists who’ve never had to meet a payroll and don’t even know what is the individual market.

We’re invisible to late-night TV clowns who get their Obamacare-at-all-costs talking points from Chuck Schumer.

We’re pariahs to social justice health care activists and Democrats who want us to just shut up and subsidize everyone else’s insurance.

And we’re expendables to establishment Republicans who hoovered up campaign donations on the empty promise to repeal Obamacare — and now consider amnesty for immigrants here illegally and gun control higher legislative priorities than keeping their damned word.

We’re the canaries in the Obamacare coal mine. Ignore us at your peril, America. You’re next.

Hillary Clinton was so angered by Weinstein ‘revelations’ that she…

Tue, 10/10/2017 - 15:29

**Written by Doug Powers

…Released a two-sentence statement through her spokesman five days after the story broke and a couple decades after everybody knew about his habitual behavior:

“I was shocked and appalled by the revelations about Harvey Weinstein,” Clinton said in a statement through her spokesman Nick Merrill. “The behavior described by women coming forward cannot be tolerated. Their courage and the support of others is critical in helping to stop this kind of behavior.”

Weinstein is a longtime associate of the Clintons and a major Democratic Party donor who bundled funds for the party’s political campaigns, including supporting both of Clinton’s presidential bids.

Hillary went on to say she’s going to give away all the money Weinstein had ever given her campaigns or raised for her political efforts. Wait, I mean she didn’t say that. Hillary’s statement took a lot of chutzpah coming from the same woman who oversaw the Clinton White House’s “Bimbo Eruptions” wing to discredit and destroy women with accusations about her husband.

Watching Dems like the Clintons, who constantly slammed Republicans as waging a “war on women,” pretend they didn’t know about Weinstein is utterly laughable. Click “play” to roll tape on the Jumbo Hypocrite-Tron:

I particularly like the part where Weinstein reminded Bill Clinton about the time they spent in Aspen and Bubba had that “don’t even continue with this story” look on his face.

No credits for you! Hollywood starts process of pretending Weinstein never happened

Tue, 10/10/2017 - 11:40

**Written by Doug Powers

As the Harvey Weinstein story gets worse and worse, the “denial” phase is now under way in Hollywood:

The name Harvey Weinstein is being purged from Hollywood.

On Monday, Deadline reported that The Weinstein Company is removing Weinstein’s executive producer credit from any TV series he’s worked on, and plans to wipe it from upcoming movie releases.

“So it is written, so it shall be done.”

Striking Weinstein’s name is way more about the rest of Hollywood trying to make themselves feel better about ignoring his behavior for years — no, decades — than it is about punishing Weinstein. Well, they’re in the acting business, so they shouldn’t have any trouble pretending it never happened.

Even the company Weinstein co-founded might be re-named:

The outlet also reports that TWC is auditioning ad agencies to change its company name altogether.

Instead of “The Weinstein Company,” how about “The Really Nervous Potted Plant Corp.” or “We saw Nothing, Inc.”?

As bad as this looks for those in Hollywood who never miss an opportunity to point fingers at everybody to their political right and accusing them of a “war on women,” by the time the next Academy Awards rolls around I’d bet anything that the Hollywood Left will be painting themselves as heroes for purging their own ranks and challenging Republicans to do same.

Meryl Streep said of Weinstein, “The behavior is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar.” Uh huh…

You once gave Roman Polanski a standing ovation

Shut. Up. Fraud. https://t.co/vYJsAcF73T

— Cameron Gray (@Cameron_Gray) October 9, 2017

Hypocrites in the house, stand up!

If they want to see sexual predator enablers, all the Hollywood Left need to do is look in a mirror, and fortunately in those are plentiful in self-obsessed Tinseltown.

Update on how progressive policies are ‘helping’ San Fran businesses

Mon, 10/09/2017 - 06:07

**Written by Doug Powers

The city of San Francisco took a lead in leading the local economy into progressive utopia in June of this year:

San Francisco’s minimum wage will increase to $14 per hour on Saturday, continuing the scheduled increases of a voter-approved measure that will lead The City to have one of the highest minimum wages in the country at $15 next year.

How’s that going? Fast forward to this month:

Gee, what could have happened?

Factors like skyrocketing rents, minimum wage and health care have certainly taken a toll on Bib Gourmand-style restaurants around the Bay Area. More than 60 restaurants closed between Sept. 2016 and Jan. 2017, according to the East Bay Times. “We’re at this precipice where the model of the full-service restaurant is being pushed to the brink,” said Gwyneth Borden, executive director of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association.

Maybe the local progressives will be able to figure out what’s going on. Just to be safe, for now, they’ll probably blame climate change, the NRA and panic about pending Republican tax cut proposals while calling for an even higher minimum wage to make up the difference.

That’ll teach him! DNC gives away 10% of Weinstein’s donations (to Dem orgs)

Sun, 10/08/2017 - 14:52

**Written by Doug Powers

The DNC is making a symbolic gesture against mega-Dem donor and fundraiser Harvey Weinstein by giving a fraction of the money he’s donated to the party away to organizations that support the Democratic Party. This is known as the “out of one pocket and into another in the same pair of pants” technique of cleansing tainted donation money:

The Democratic National Committee will redistribute thousands of dollars of donations from Hollywood titan Harvey Weinstein to several women’s groups aligned with Democrats after reports Weinstein has settled sexual harassment lawsuits with a number of women over the years.

“The allegations in the New York Times report are deeply troubling,” Xochitl Hinojosa, the DNC’s communications director, said in a Friday statement. “The Democratic party condemns all forms of sexual harassment and assault.”

Hinojosa said the party will donate more than $30,000 in contributions from Weinstein to EMILY’s List, Emerge America and Higher Heights “because what we need is more women in power, not men like [President] Trump who continue to show us that they lack respect for more than half of America.”

That’s roughly 10 percent of the $300,000 Weinstein has donated to the DNC over the years, all of which was gladly accepted even though his reputation was apparently well established long ago. Weinstein spent much of his time and money hoping to get the wife of Bill Clinton elected president, and he’s given well over a million dollars to the Dem party and its candidates’ campaigns who used the money at least in part to get the “Republicans are bad for women” message out.

Now, a portion of Weinstein’s original DNC donations are being re-donated to Democrat orgs who will no doubt use some of the money to paint the Right as sexist. You know, ol’ Harvey might ultimately be best remembered as an enabler of the most self-perpetuating hypocrisy surge in American political history.

Nancy Pelosi speaks the truth (!?)

Sun, 10/08/2017 - 11:52

**Written by Doug Powers

Nancy Pelosi recently did a great job of proving wrong those who say if you give the Dems an inch on gun control measures they’ll be inspired to take a mile. Oops, I mean, she did a great job of proving them right:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that she “certainly hopes” a ban on “bump stocks” will open the door to additional gun control actions.

“They’re going to say, ‘You give them bump stock, it’s going to be a slippery slope.’ I certainly hope so,” she told a reporter at a news conference.

A broken clock is right twice a day just as Nancy Pelosi is honest once in a while. But what other gun measures would Pelosi & the Dems have in mind? As usual, you’ll have to pass their bill to find out what’s in it.

Hillary Clinton finds new post-election loss niche: Cybersecurity expert

Sat, 10/07/2017 - 17:35

**Written by Doug Powers

This has to be the funniest headline of the week:

Unless her first tip was “don’t ever take cyber security advice from Hillary Clinton” it was a counterproductive speech:

Hillary Clinton's email server was unsecure for first 3 months in office http://t.co/4gXbDpemVn pic.twitter.com/RYG5nZ9ZMY

— Fortune (@FortuneMagazine) March 11, 2015

If you’re not sold on Hillary’s cyber-expert cred, here’s a flashback to convince you:

Who better to give a speech about cybersecurity than somebody “remarkably uninterested and unfamiliar with new technology”? Maybe her entire cybersecurity speech consisted of this: “One word: BleachBit!”

Hillary has admitted she doesn’t know much about tech, so the real reason she was there was of course to sell books and keep blaming Russia for her failings:

She addressed a crowd of about 500 people as part of a launch event for Stanford’s new Global Digital Policy Incubator.

On the topic of digital technology, Clinton focused her remarks on Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

Of course she did.

‘Truth to power’ late-night hosts were ALL OVER the Weinstein story (just kidding)

Fri, 10/06/2017 - 17:05

**Written by Doug Powers

Here’s a compilation of all the jokes and comments made about Harvey Weinstein last night by “truth to power” late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Myers, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon:

Weinstein has donated nearly $600,000 to Democrats and raised a lot more money than that for the party and its pols, so you’d think that could provide a treasure trove of jokes about Democrat hypocrisy. Dems habitually accusing Republicans as being “bad for women” when their party was the home to Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Anthony Weiner and now Weinstein could be ripe comedic territory, but for some reason it isn’t:

Late-night comedy hosts on Thursday steered clear of the newly revealed bombshell allegations that Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed several women over decades.

The New York Times report, which claimed that Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassing at least eight women, including actresses Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan, over the span of nearly 30 years, broke at around 2 p.m. EST on Thursday, only a few hours before late-night shows typically tape. But those same shows regularly provide same-day jokes on news regarding President Donald Trump that has broken well after then, the Daily Beast reported.

Late-night comedians Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, James Corden, and Stephen Colbert all avoided any mention of the allegations against Weinstein, both in their monologues and interviews with movie-star guests. The Daily Beast noted that Corden and Fallon have appeared in Weinstein films.

“Truth to power” — as long as that “power” doesn’t have a big “D” and huge dollar sign after its name.

But at least the media’s reminded us that we don’t need our own consciences anymore:

How Jimmy Kimmel became America's conscience https://t.co/zoBChqAPDq pic.twitter.com/6PZOHGe0Qr

— CNN International (@cnni) October 4, 2017

Don’t look now, but “America’s conscience” gets its talking points from Chuck Schumer, who got big donations from Harvey Weinstein, so upcoming monologues might also be Weinstein-free.

PEAK pitiful: Grieving fans thank Hillary 11 months after election loss

Thu, 10/05/2017 - 22:58

**Written by Doug Powers

Hillary Clinton most likely has the longest “victory” tour after losing an election of any candidate in history. On the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night, she was thanked some more, nearly a year after being denied the White House:

Hillary Clinton went on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon yesterday and the female writers of the show wanted to show their gratitude to the former presidential candidate. They read out thank-you notes to her along to appropriate “thank-you note writing music.” Being comedy writers, they were pretty funny, with one of them telling Clinton, “Call me day or night and I will be there with a gallon of ice cream and two spoons to tell you, girl you are so much better than him!”

Once the writers were done it was Miley Cyrus’ turn, and she took a pretty sincere tone, seeming to choke up with emotion as she thanked Clinton for being “a beacon of strength,” before giving her a teary hug.

Maybe take a healthy dose of your anti-emetic of choice before proceeding with the video:

A real “comedy” show would have included somebody from Trump’s team writing a note to Hillary thanking her for not going to Wisconsin and for telling coal country she planned to put them out of work.

Hollywood mogul’s response to NYT sexual predator bombshells: Let’s get the NRA!

Thu, 10/05/2017 - 19:06

**Written by Doug Powers

The New York Times has reported about decades worth of sexual harassment allegations against Hollywood mogul and big Hillary & Dem supporter Harvey Weinstein:

An investigation by The New York Times found previously undisclosed allegations against Mr. Weinstein stretching over nearly three decades, documented through interviews with current and former employees and film industry workers, as well as legal records, emails and internal documents from the businesses he has run, Miramax and the Weinstein Company.

During that time, after being confronted with allegations including sexual harassment and unwanted physical contact, Mr. Weinstein has reached at least eight settlements with women, according to two company officials speaking on the condition of anonymity. Among the recipients, The Times found, were a young assistant in New York in 1990, an actress in 1997, an assistant in London in 1998, an Italian model in 2015 and Ms. O’Connor shortly after, according to records and those familiar with the agreements.

Weinstein’s response to the numerous allegations? He’s a child of the 60s and obviously likes to quote Jay-Z. Also, if he could only be forgiven, Weinstein would love to help the Left take on the NRA. Check out that doozy of a final paragraph:

WaPo fact check rates Tim Kaine’s ‘silencer’ lie less untrue because of his ignorance

Wed, 10/04/2017 - 22:10

**Written by Doug Powers

Sorry, but I couldn’t think of a more accurate way to title this post. However, before any of the real ridiculousness starts, watch a short video here to see just how “silent” a suppressor makes an automatic weapon.

With that in mind, U.S. Senator, uber weasel and Hillary’s ex running-mate Tim Kaine is helping out the the lib narrative to sound the alarm about something that didn’t even play a role in Las Vegas: Suppressors:

“He was only stopped finally because he did not have a silencer on his weapon. And the sound drew people to the place where he was ultimately stopped. Can you imagine what this would have been if he had silencers on these weapons?”

Did you catch that? What an argument. Kaine’s the kind of guy who would have responded to the Nice, France attack by saying “he was only stopped because he wasn’t driving a quieter truck.”

Anyway, back to the real world: Suppressors don’t really work long, if at all, with automatic weapons:

“Back in the day, when we had silencers … you could screw a brand-new silencer on a weapon, and maybe the first two rounds were really suppressed,” Satterly said. “Once you shoot the baffles out” — the rings of rubber that absorb energy in the suppressor — “the sound is almost the same.” As you shoot, in other words, the suppressor loses its effectiveness. Satterly was referring to a handgun, not an automatic weapon. An automatic weapon creates so much heat that it rapidly deteriorates the effectiveness of sound suppression (or simply melts it).

The Washington Post’s fact check found a way to make Kaine’s claim (echoed by other agenda-driven Dems such as Hillary Clinton and Jimmy Kimmel’s social issues monologue writer Chuck Schumer) not a total lie — only two out of a possible four Pinocchios:

Kaine should be more careful when talking about weapons, especially during a national tragedy. We will accept his staff’s explanation that he meant that silencers muffle a gunshot’s source, even though his phrasing certainly sounded like he meant that silencers actually made firearms quiet. Regular readers know we don’t try to play gotcha here at The Fact Checker.

But in any case, the evidence does not support Kaine’s claim that the shooter was “only stopped” because he did not have suppressors on his weapons. That’s exaggerated and could leave a misleading impression on people only familiar with silencers in the movies. The crowd under attack might have had trouble establishing the location of the shooter if he had silencers, but he fired from a hotel filled with guests who almost certainly would have heard 132 decibels from the floors above and below the attack.

In other words, the WaPo fact check avoided ruling Kaine’s BS a four Pinocchio lie because they believe he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. No, Kaine knows full well that he’s lying his ass off but if the media wants to dismiss that as a “misspeak” it only solidifies their “hack” cred.

In the end, the title of the video, uploaded by the Washington Post, says it all:

We need fallacy control now!

We need fallacy control now!
by Michelle Malkin
Creators Syndicate
Copyright 2017

Enough is enough. It’s epidemic. It’s dangerous. And the time has come to demand its end.

In the aftermath of the horrific massacre in Las Vegas, America needs fallacy control. Yes, we must declare war on fallaciousness. Now more than ever, the nation is suffering from an outbreak of illogical thinking. In response to senseless violence, clearheaded citizens deserve a safe space from the 24/7 barrage of rhetorical nonsense. Let’s break down the collective cognitive breakdown.

Argumentum ad celebritum. Empty talking points don’t become persuasive arguments when uttered by Hollywood stars. But in the bizarre land of the celebrity cult, late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel has been suddenly anointed “America’s conscience” and “voice of reason.”

Kimmel railed “intensely” on TV Monday night against politicians doing “nothing” to stop mass gun violence. Sobbing and emotional, he insisted, “there’s a lot of things we can do about it.” Yet, Kimmel acknowledged that Mandalay Bay gunman Stephen Paddock had passed multiple, mandated background checks and had no criminal history. Moreover, Paddock bought his guns legally from Nevada and Utah gun shops subject to a thicket of local, state and federal rules — and reportedly carried 23 of his weapons into a casino/hotel that already operates as a gun-free zone.

Federal studies show that a measly 1 to 3 percent of all guns are purchased at gun shows, but that didn’t stop Kimmel from tossing around non sequiturs attacking the “gun show loophole.” It’s a mythical exemption in federal law for private weapons sales at gun shows or online intended to drum up hysteria about unregulated gun sales. In reality, firearms purchased through federally licensed firearms dealers at gun shops, shows, garage sales or anywhere else are subject to all the usual checks and restrictions. Only a narrow category of same-state transactions between private individuals not engaged in the commercial business of selling firearms (family members or collectors, for example) are unaffected by those regulations.

There is zero empirical evidence that banning these types of transactions would do anything to prevent gun crimes or mass shootings. But who needs evidence when Jimmy Kimmel is bawling on stage “intensely”? The tears of a clown outweigh the sobriety of facts.

Argumentum ad populum and argumentum ad hashtag. Actor Billy Baldwin unloaded a fallacy two-fer with his assertion that “the overwhelming majority of Dems, Reps & NRA members endorse #GunSafety,” so “how can we let the #NRA hold us hostage like this? #NRATerrorists.” Claiming that an “overwhelming majority” of people agree with you doesn’t make your argument sound. Nor does citing polls showing support for “gun show loopholes” that those surveyed don’t fully understand. Nor does attacking the character of your political opponents and hashtag-smearing them as “NRATerrorists” for holding political viewpoints different than your own.

Straw men and red herrings. Grossly oversimplifying support of ineffective or superfluous gun control measures as “#GunSafety” allows celebrities, politicians and activists to prop up their favorite hollow debating tactic: asserting that gun owners, NRA members, and Republicans don’t care about gun safety and want more innocent people to die.

Democrat Rep. Ted Lieu illustrated a similar diversionary tactic by waving the red herring of a “gun silencer bill” and demanding that GOP “COWARDS” vote against deregulating such suppressors. Hillary Clinton also demagogued the issue, ghoulishly tweeting: “Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get.” Her running mate and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine parroted the propaganda, claiming that Paddock “was only stopped because he didn’t have a silencer on his firearm, and the sound drew people to the place where he was ultimately stopped.”

Police, however, took 72 minutes to locate Paddock; it was the sound of hotel fire alarms set off by all the gun smoke that led them to the shooter. But let’s not let pesky facts in the way.

Think of the children. Invoking kids to support one’s public policy preferences is not an argument. It’s a timeworn appeal to emotion. Without it, however, gun control advocates are all out of ammunition.

“We as a society owe it to our children” to pass “common sense” gun control, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton pleaded.

“Thoughts & prayers are NOT enough. Not when more moms & dads will bury kids this week, & more sons & daughters will grow up without parents,” Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., fumed on Twitter.

And actor Boris Kodjoe tweeted: “My 10 year old asked me how the shooter was able to get his machine gun. I told him that pretty much anyone in the US can. ‘But why daddy’?”

Too bad Kodjoe’s kid will never know that daddy didn’t tell him the truth about fully automatic firearms (aka “machine guns”), which have been effectively banned from private civilian ownership in the U.S. as a result of federal gun legislation dating back to 1934. Nor will the children of the “Think about the children!” brigade be taught the truth about defensive gun use or Second Amendment history and jurisprudence.

We owe our children critical thinking skills and evidence-based public policy, not knee-jerk slogans and tear-jerking treacle.

Prog-style ‘cost analysis’ of extra births if 20 week abortion ban passes vs. DREAMers

Wed, 10/04/2017 - 06:26

**Written by Doug Powers

Here are three headlines touting the economic benefits of providing permanent legal status to people who entered or were brought into the country illegally…

ABC News:

Bloomberg View:

Business Insider:

But hold on a minute! The arrival of more people isn’t always a boon to the economy. What if those “new arrivals” are domestic?

Well that’s a different story altogether:

Planned Parenthood and NARAL are going to be all over this CBO analysis of what happens if abortions after 20 weeks are banned:

CBO estimates that enacting H.R. 36 would increase direct spending, primarily for Medicaid in order to cover the costs of additional births under the act. Because the number of abortions that would be averted due to the act is very uncertain, the extent of that additional Medicaid spending is also very uncertain. Depending on the number of additional births under H.R. 36, such Medicaid costs could range from about $65 million over the next 10 years to about $335 million over that period. Using an assumption that, under the act, about three-quarters of the abortions that would occur 20 weeks or more after fertilization under current law would instead occur earlier, and the remaining one-quarter would not occur so those pregnancies would be taken to term, CBO estimates that federal spending for Medicaid would rise by $175 million over the 2018-2027 period.

I can see the lefty ads already: “Support late term abortion and illegal immigration — don’t you care about the deficit?”
