Bernie Sanders & wife share the wealth (with defense attorneys) – open thread

3 hours 50 min ago

**Written by Doug Powers

Another Sunday cavalcade of odds and ends is here. We’ll kick it off with the story of how one of America’s highest profile socialists and his wife are sharing their wealth… with defense lawyers:

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) wife Jane Sanders has booked top notch lawyers to defend her against allegations of bank fraud.

The FBI launched an investigation into loans Sanders applied for when she was president of Burlington College, alleging that she lied to qualify for them.

A January 2016 complaint filed by Donald Trump’s Vermont campaign chair, lawyer Brady Toensing, originally requested the investigation.

The complaint alleged that Mrs. Sanders lied on a 2010 loan application from People’s United Bank for $10 million to expand Burlington’s campus.

Any good socialist critic of capitalism knows that owning multiple homes is worth the allegations of hypocrisy because you never know when you’re going to need a s***load of collateral for a legal retainer.

However, Bernie might want to rethink his rule that the mere existence of an investigation is enough to assume the allegations are true:

Feel the Bern!

The effort to establish health care utopia in California has stalled. At this point only one thing is holding back progressive legislators in the state: Reality:

A high-profile effort to establish a single-payer healthcare system in California sputtered Friday when Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) decided to shelve the proposal.
“SB 562 was sent to the Assembly woefully incomplete,” Rendon said in a statement. “Even senators who voted for SB 562 noted there are potentially fatal flaws in the bill, including the fact it does not address many serious issues, such as financing, delivery of care, cost controls, or the realities of needed action by the Trump administration and voters to make SB 562 a genuine piece of legislation.”

Under the measure, California would have paid the healthcare costs for all residents, eliminating premiums, copays and deductibles that are common fixtures in the current healthcare system.

Several key details were unresolved in the measure — most significantly how to pay for it. The program, which carried an estimated price tag of $330 billion to $400 billion, would have required new taxes to pay for it, but no sources of tax revenue were specified in the legislation.

The current challenge is finding a way to make nearly a half trillion dollar state expenditure sound “free,” but I’m sure they’ll come up with something.

Keeping the focus on California for the moment, the state’s attorney general is vehemently opposed to “travel bans” — unless he isn’t:

California’s attorney general blocked state-funded travel to Texas and three other states on Thursday in response to what he considers anti-LGBT rights laws enacted this year.

Democratic Attorney General Xavier Becerra added Texas, Alabama, South Dakota and Kentucky to the list of places where state employee travel is restricted. Lawmakers passed legislation last year banning non-essential travel to states with laws that discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. North Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi and Tennessee are already on the list.

California taxpayers’ money “will not be used to let people travel to states who chose to discriminate,” Becerra said.

But no problem with millions of state taxpayer dollars spent on abortions, naturally.

Trump saying he was pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement has provided some high profile alarmists with the opportunity to reinvent themselves as “let’s save the planet together” superheroes:

French President Emmanuel Macron has taken another swipe at Donald Trump over the US president’s policy on climate change – this time backed up by the muscle of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In a video on social media, Mr Macron is joined by the Terminator star as he vows to “make the planet great again”.

The video lecturing/mocking Trump for not taking emissions seriously enough would have made a much better statement if they’d have filmed it aboard Arnold’s private jet:

Good luck! Obama’s returning to ‘help’ Dems some more

Sat, 06/24/2017 - 17:05

**Written by Doug Powers

Obama’s previous pledge to try and remain on the sidelines like his predecessors had all the promissory integrity of “if you like your plan you can keep it,” and the ex-prez will start hitting the road soon on behalf of Dems seeking office, starting in Virginia:

Former President Obama plans to return to the political spotlight this fall by hitting the campaign trail for Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, the Democratic nominee running for Virginia governor.

This will be Obama’s first time campaigning since he left the White House and stumped for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election, Obama and Northam’s offices confirmed to the Huffington Post.

Hey, if Obama wants to continue to lead the Democratic Party, who are Republicans to argue?

The GOP might welcome Obama’s involvement in upcoming elections as much as they’re encouraging Nancy Pelosi to stay involved.

Clinton, Sanders & Warren don’t want to cause a panic, but you’re about to die because of Republicans

Fri, 06/23/2017 - 23:33

**Written by Doug Powers

Alarmist rhetoric is like penicillin — the more you use the stuff when it isn’t necessary the less effective it becomes — and Dems are now trying to inject everybody with it by the gallon. After taking the obligatory 1/2 hour off from accusing the other side of murder after the shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise, they were back at it about a potential “repeal and replace” of Obamacare.

Leading off we have Hillary Clinton, who has stumbled across a great anti-death line she can use the next time she’s accepting another Margaret Sanger “Golden Forceps Award” from Planned Parenthood:

Forget death panels. If Republicans pass this bill, they're the death party. https://t.co/jCStfOaBjy

— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) June 23, 2017

Judging from the electoral map combined with other national, state and local election results, the Democrats are the “death party” based on their somewhat self-inflicted demise. Hillary proved they learned nothing.

Bernie Sanders is also among the many Democrats sounding the death siren by sounding like a socialist Grim Reaper:

Let us be clear and this is not trying to be overly dramatic: Thousands of people will die if the Republican health care bill becomes law.

— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) June 23, 2017

Bernie and his wife might be hoping that their legal defense team aren’t among those slayed by the Republican plan.

Elizabeth Warren, aka Dances With Identity Fraud, also had some arrows to sling at the GOP, accusing them of “paying for tax cuts” by repealing the only thing that’s kept people alive since 2010: Obamacare:

I’ve read the Republican “health care” bill. This is blood money. They’re paying for tax cuts with American lives. pic.twitter.com/298DLguNiM

— Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren) June 22, 2017

I hope all the “you’re about to die” Dems are paying royalties to Alan Grayson, who pioneered the technique before Obamacare even became law:

How in the world did Americans survive before the Democrats came along and passed a law they knew so many people would like that they had to make it mandatory?

If Dems want to start a panic about a health care law, they should start with the one that’s currently the law.

Planned Parenthood won’t let a woman defeating Jon Ossoff deter their ‘fight for women’

Fri, 06/23/2017 - 15:17

**Written by Doug Powers

A woman defeated a man in Georgia’s 6th District this week, which Planned Parenthood considers a loss for women (and you know why):

Jon @Ossoff came within 5% in a district that elected @SecPriceMD by 23% 7 months ago. We won't stop fighting for women. #GA06

— Planned Parenthood (@PPact) June 21, 2017

Apparently women aren’t women until they become lock-step fellow travelers. Whenever you read anything from Planned Parenthood, substitute “women” with “abortion” because that’s what they really mean.

Unity: GOP supports Nancy Pelosi in her fight to remain a Dem leader

Thu, 06/22/2017 - 19:05

**Written by Doug Powers

Nancy Pelosi’s pushing back against a few Democrats who seem to be recognizing that doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result might not be a good long-term strategy:

Nancy Pelosi is shrugging off the calls from within her own party that she step down as House Minority Leader.

Ever since Jon Ossoff‘s failed effort to win the special election in Georgia, Pelosi has taken fire from colleagues who say that her leadership has led to too many Democratic Party setbacks. During a press conference today, Pelosi said she was “proud of the unity” within the party, and that her colleagues were welcome to “have [their] fun,” and say what they will whenever they discuss her in TV interviews.

“I love the arena. I thrive on competition and I welcome the discussion, but I am honored by this,” Pelosi said.

When Pelosi was asked if it was time for new House Democratic caucus leadership, she said she was “very confident” with her levels of support, and that “my timing is not about” her critics.

“We are paving a way for a new generation of leadership,” Pelosi said. “Again, I respect any opinion that my members have, but my decision about how long I stay is not up to them.”

At a press conference, Pelosi was asked to compliment herself and she ran with it:

The video cut off, but she’s still in the process of praising herself.

The Republicans are standing by Pelosi, for obvious reasons:

Few have done more to elect Republicans than @NancyPelosi. Thank you! #StandWithNancy https://t.co/do8Pw01uid

Trey Gowdy helps former DHS director pop Dem 2016 narratives

Thu, 06/22/2017 - 09:48

**Written by Doug Powers

I’ve written before that if Hillary Clinton had won the election last November the whole Russia thing would have completely fallen off the radar and gone away. Even before the election, Ex-DHS chief Jeh Johnson confirmed yesterday that Democrats didn’t seem very alarmed by Russian intrusions back when they were certain Hillary was going to win:

Former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson testified Wednesday that the Democratic National Committee last year turned down his agency’s offer to help protect its network despite being warned about a hack.

He also confirmed that while Russia, at the direction of President Vladimir Putin, orchestrated cyberattacks on the United States to influence the 2016 presidential election, Moscow was unable to actually alter ballots.

“To my current knowledge, the Russian government did not through any cyber intrusion alter ballots, ballot counts or reporting of election results,” Johnson said during his opening statement before the House Intelligence Committee.
“Sometime in 2016, I became aware of a hack into systems of the Democratic National Committee,” Johnson said. “… I pressed my staff to know whether DHS was sufficiently proactive, and on the scene helping the DNC identify the intruders and patch vulnerabilities. The answer, to the best of my recollection, was not reassuring: the FBI and the DNC had been in contact with each other months before about the intrusion, and the DNC did not feel it needed DHS’s assistance at that time.”

The FBI reportedly faced a similar rejection.

So many Dem narratives are being popped here that it sounded like an early 4th of July fireworks show:

And who was president in 2016, anyway?

How do we know Jeh Johnson’s statements about the DNC were truthful? Because Donna Brazile said he(r) was lying:

Yep, the Dems took allegations of outside influence on the election so seriously that a couple of weeks before the vote Hillary Clinton said this:

Call this bluff: UN threatens to boot US if Trump doesn’t play ball

Wed, 06/21/2017 - 22:10

**Written by Doug Powers

The response to this should simply be “OK, good luck with that”:

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned the Trump administration on Tuesday that if the United States disengages from many issues confronting the international community it will be replaced — and that won’t be good for America or for the world.

Guterres made clear to reporters at his first press conference here since taking the reins of the United Nations on Jan. 1 that proposed cuts in U.S. funding for the U.N. would be disastrous and create “an unsolvable problem to the management of the U.N.”

But the U.N. chief stressed that he is not afraid to stand up to President Donald Trump, citing his vocal opposition to the U.S. leader’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement. He said the mobilization of U.S. business and civil society in support or the climate deal is “a signal of hope that we very much encourage.”

Nothin’ like a stern “responsibility” lecture from a global body that lets Iran sit on a women’s rights board. And I’m quite certain that the one thing that has never been and never will be uttered by a U.N. leader in any serious fashion is “your money’s no good here anymore.”

I’ll start to believe the empty threats the day moving vans are spotted in front of UN headquarters in New York City, but they won’t be. Why? Because, to quote a famous saying, “that’s where the money is.”

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow blows lid off ‘partisan implications’ of rain

Wed, 06/21/2017 - 18:46

**Written by Doug Powers

If you’re keeping score at home, Democrat Jon Ossoff’s loss in Georgia last night means it’s time to update your “#1 cause of Democrat voter disenfranchisement” card to voter ID laws Russian hacking rain:

Maddow: “Steve, let me ask you one last question on this. If there was a turnout effect from the bad weather today in the district, does that have any partisan implications that you could foresee in terms of what was expected for same day, election day voting rather than the early vote?”

This is at least as embarrassing as the thing with Trump’s taxes:

Because everybody knows that only Republicans own umbrellas! In any case, I think we might have the first climate change-related Democrat election casualty since Trump got elected and pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement.

Or, maybe Russia caused the rain…

The double murder of Otto Warmbier

Tue, 06/20/2017 - 23:15

The double murder of Otto Warmbier
by Michelle Malkin
Creators Syndicate
Copyright 2017

We may never know what brutal torture and malign neglect American student Otto Warmbier suffered at the hands of North Korea’s dictatorship before losing his life this week at the age of 22.

But it wasn’t the first time the free-spirited Ohio native died.

More than a year before succumbing to the unknown illness or injury that left him in a coma thousands of miles away from home, Otto Warmbier’s own countrymen murdered his reputation. His character. His humanity.

Click-hungry media ghouls knew nothing about Warmbier’s small-town upbringing, his family life, politics, personality, disappointments or dreams. But they gleefully savaged a young man who made a mistake on a doomed trip to a totalitarian hell.

Warmbier’s thoughtless taunters instantly transformed him into a bigger, badder villain than the barbaric DPRK goons who beat, starve, rape and kill enemies of the state for such offenses as listening to foreign radio broadcasts, possessing Bibles and disrespecting Dear Leader — in Warmbier’s case, by attempting to steal a propaganda sign that read “Let’s arm ourselves strongly with Kim Jong-il’s patriotism!” as a souvenir.

The Huffington Post published an acid rant by “Blogging While Black” writer La Sha titled “North Korea Proves Your White Male Privilege Is Not Universal.” She rejoiced at Warmbier’s sentence because, she gloated, it taught him that “the shield his cis white male identity provides here in America is not teflon abroad.”

Instead of faulting a repressive socialist regime, La Sha blamed Warmbier for “being socialized first as a white boy, and then as a white man in this country.” The HuffPo’s megalomaniac millennial had the gall to compare her daily plight of living and breathing freely in America to Warmbier’s captivity:

“The hopeless fear Warmbier is now experiencing is my daily reality living in a country where white men like him are willfully oblivious to my suffering even as they are complicit in maintaining the power structures which ensure their supremacy at my expense.”

But it wasn’t just babbling diversity bloggers who exploited Warmbier’s imprisonment.

For a few cheap yuks, liberal black comedian Larry Wilmore plowed ahead with smug disregard to how Warmbier’s parents, family and friends must have suffered as photos and videos of their son and loved one were plastered all over media. To canned laughter, Wilmore mocked Warmbier on his Comedy Central show with a graphic labeling him an “ASS,” which spelled out a fake frat name, “Alpha Sigma Sigma.”

“It’s just tough for me to have much sympathy for this guy and his crocodile tears,” Wilmore snarked as he roasted the “Frat Boy.”

Left-wing website Salon added another layer to the white male-bashing echo chamber:

This might be America’s biggest idiot frat boy: Meet the UVa student who thought he could pull a prank in North Korea.”

Not to be outdone, Affinity Magazine (a “social justice” online magazine for teens) stomped on Warmbier’s grave after his death was announced:

“Watch whiteness work,” the publication tweeted. “He wasn’t a ‘kid’ or ‘innocent’ you can’t go to another country and try to steal from them. Respect their laws.”

This from a rag that had deified Black Lives Matter icons Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin as downtrodden youth whose extensive rap sheets must remain unmentioned at all costs.

Otto’s saboteurs engaged in the very same bigotry and stereotyping they recklessly accuse everyone else of at every turn. The far left learned nothing from leaping to conclusions about the Duke lacrosse players or the wrongfully accused members of Phi Kappa Psi at University of Virginia — where Warmbier was a junior double-majoring in commerce and economics.

By all accounts, Warmbier was a charismatic and caring human being whom one high-school classmate called “Everyone’s friend.” He was a lover of cultures and intellectually open-minded — “a warm, engaging, brilliant young man whose curiosity and enthusiasm for life knew no bounds,” according to his family.

Utterly consumed by malignant identity politics, the left-wing intelligentsia have become the intolerantsia. They are bent on dehumanizing individuals, fomenting racial, ethnic and class division in the name of “progressivism,” and never taking responsibility for the damage done.

Contrast the no-regrets policy of these “Frat Boy”-bashers, with a former North Korean prison guard, Lim Hye-jin, who escaped recently and recounted the horrors of life in the camps.

“We were manipulated not to feel any sympathy for prisoners,” she said. The guards of the totalitarian state “do not see them as human beings, just as animals.” After realizing she had been brainwashed by ideological monsters, she spoke out.

“Now I know they were normal people, so I feel very guilty.”

Will the short, slandered life and double death of Otto Warmbier prompt the American left’s cruel character assassins to admit the same?

Soul-searching, alas, requires a soul.

Go figure: Lib celebs’ election-swaying power takes another hit in Georgia

Tue, 06/20/2017 - 22:56

**Written by Doug Powers

In Georgia, Democrat Jon Ossoff seemed to model his campaign off of Hillary Clinton’s “all liberal celebrities all the time” approach. How’d that work out for Ossoff? About as well as it did for Hillary:

BREAKING: Republican Karen Handel wins Georgia special election, avoiding major upset in most expensive House race in US history.

— The Associated Press (@AP) June 21, 2017

Democrat Jon Ossoff thanks his #GA06 supporters: “This is the beginning of something much bigger than us” https://t.co/gihvNUWDSF

— CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) June 21, 2017

Well, at least Ossoff can still say he didn’t vote for the losing candidate.

The faces on CNN tell the whole story:

Oh man, not a good night over on CNN. #GA06 pic.twitter.com/IOn2ArxZPE

— Luxury Yacht Owner (@CounterMoonbat) June 21, 2017

The objectivity is palpable!

Here’s an interesting tidbit:

Handel is the first female Republican member of the US House of Representatives from Georgia #GA06

— SalenaZito (@SalenaZito) June 21, 2017

Feminists will be celebrating that fact, right? RIGHT!?

After the dust settles though, the DNC will probably conclude that Ossoff just didn’t haul in enough Hollywood celebs (and their money). The definition of insanity isn’t one of the dictionary’s longest running entries for nothing.

The Resistance took an additional hit in South Carolina:

Ralph Norman, a Republican, defeated Archie Parnell, a Democrat, in a South Carolina special election on Tuesday in a U.S. House race.

Mr. Norman was expected to have an advantage over Mr. Parnell for the seat, which was vacated by Mick Mulvaney, now director of the Office of Management and Budget. However, Mr. Parnell kept the race relatively close, losing by just a few percentage points.

It’s unanimous: Obama, Pelosi & Reid’s First Amendment flop

Tue, 06/20/2017 - 13:45

**Written by Doug Powers

In the last few years, high profile Democrats have railed against Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder and promised him the days were numbered for that name.

Harry Reid in June of 2014:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid — a vocal opponent of the Washington Redskins name — took to the floor Wednesday and continued to slam the team’s owner in light of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s decision to cancel the team’s trademarks.

“The Redskins no longer have trademarks. They are gone,” the Nevada Democrat said. “Daniel Snyder may be the last person in the world to realize this, but it’s just a matter of time until he is forced to do the right thing and change the name.”

Nancy Pelosi around the same time:

Today’s great actions by the @USPTO show that slurs have no right to trademark protections. The DC football team must choose a new name.

— Nancy Pelosi (@NancyPelosi) June 18, 2014

Here’s what the Obama administration, led by the Left’s favorite self-described constitutional law expert, was up to in January 2015:

The Obama administration joined a lawsuit opposing the Washington Redskins‘ team trademark on Friday, filing court papers to defend the federal law that gives the government the power to deny recognition to trademarks it believes to be disparaging.

The Patent and Trademark Office’s appeals board had revoked the NFL team’s trademarks last year, finding that they were offensive and so they weren’t protected under federal law.

Fast forward to yesterday:

The Supreme Court on Monday struck down part of a law that bans offensive trademarks in a ruling that is expected to help the Washington Redskins in their legal fight over the team name.

The justices ruled that the 71-year-old trademark law barring disparaging terms infringes on free speech rights.
Redskins owner Dan Snyder said he was “thrilled” with the Supreme Court’s ruling, and team attorney Lisa Blatt said the court’s decision effectively resolves the Redskins’ longstanding dispute with the government.

“The Supreme Court vindicated the Team’s position that the First Amendment blocks the government from denying or cancelling a trademark registration based on the government’s opinion,” Blatt said in a statement.

Here’s the best part:

This was also 8-0. First Amendment is extremely well protected by this Court. https://t.co/O7VfUjqTh5

— Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) June 19, 2017

It’s unanimous — Obama, Reid and Pelosi were wrong again.

Team Obama keeps delivering on the ‘historic levels of transparency’

Tue, 06/20/2017 - 10:40

**Written by Doug Powers

Call it “Historic Levels of Transparency: The Next Generation“:

Judicial Watch today announced that the National Security Council (NSC) on May 23, 2017, informed it by letter that the materials regarding the unmasking by Obama National Security Advisor Susan Rice of “the identities of any U.S. citizens associated with the Trump presidential campaign or transition team” have been removed to the Obama Library.

The NSC will not fulfill an April 4 Judicial Watch request for records regarding information relating to people “who were identified pursuant to intelligence collection activities.”

The agency also informed Judicial Watch that it would not turn over communications with any Intelligence Community member or agency concerning the alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election; the hacking of DNC computers; or the suspected communications between Russia and Trump campaign/transition officials. Specifically, the NSC told Judicial Watch:

Documents from the Obama administration have been transferred to the Barack Obama Presidential Library. You may send your request to the Obama Library. However, you should be aware that under the Presidential Records Act, Presidential records remain closed to the public for five years after an administration has left office.

The rest here. Maybe the place should be called the Obama Presidential Lie-bury. Also, if the DNC talking points memo about Russia “hacking the election” and installing Trump as president were indeed factual you’d think the Dems would be publicly calling for the release of that evidence instead of using it as the foundation for Obama’s still under construction library.

Scott Pelley: Ya know, the attack on GOP congressmen was ‘to some degree self-inflicted’

Mon, 06/19/2017 - 18:23

A post-shooting spin of choice embraced by liberal actors and MSNBC talking heads obviously resonated in select totally objective mainstream media newsrooms. CBS News’ Scott Pelley took that handoff and ran with it as evidenced by a commentary that started this way:

It’s time to ask whether the attack on the United States Congress, yesterday, was foreseeable, predictable and, to some degree, self-inflicted.

Too many leaders, and political commentators, who set an example for us to follow, have led us into an abyss of violent rhetoric which, it should be no surprise, has led to violence.

Yesterday was not the first time.

Pelley’s last broadcast as anchor of the CBS Evening News was the next night, so he obviously decided to let the objectivity mask drop all the way to the ground for his penultimate commentary:

Rape fakers must pay a higher price

Mon, 06/19/2017 - 02:57

Rape fakers must pay a higher price
by Michelle Malkin
Creators Syndicate
Copyright 2017

It’s settled, but far from over. The University of Virginia fraternity that was slimed and defamed by sicko fabulist Sabrina Erdely will receive a $1.65 million payment, the fraternity announced this week.

Erdely’s manufactured tale of gang rape by Phi Kappa Psi members, spun through a manipulated UVA student dubbed “Jackie” and published by left-wing Rolling Stone magazine, combusted spectacularly after scrutiny by independent journalists in late 2014. The latest payout over the fictional hit piece comes in the wake of another defamation lawsuit by UVA dean of students Nicole Eramo. She won a $3 million jury verdict last year after suffering great damage to her reputation after Rolling Stone and painted her as an uncaring, obstructionist school official who covered up sexual assault on campus.

The judgment, Eramo told NBC 29 in Charlottesville, Virginia, last week, “was vindicating.”

But is it enough to compensate for the harm done — and is it enough to deter future rape hoaxers and their media enablers from perpetrating more lies against innocent young men?

Phi Kappa Psi initially sued for $25 million, but received a tiny fraction of that amount. Eramo’s jury award also shrunk after she agreed to a settlement with Rolling Stone in April. Despite her court victory, she faced a mountain of legal bills related to trial costs and a threatened appeal.

And what about Erdeley’s other victims?

Three other Phi Kappa Psi alumni, George Elias IV, Stephen Hadford and Ross Fowler, filed a third defamation suit that was dismissed by a federal judge last year. But in April, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York heard arguments for reinstating the case. It will take considerable time and resources for the fraternity members to be made whole again.

Even more troubling: There are other forgotten targets of Erdely’s shoddy slur-nolism, again published by Rolling Stone, who have yet to see any accountability for her destructive words and actions against them.

In 2011, Erdely published a massive “investigation” in Rolling Stone alleging a “high-level conspiracy” to cover up sexual abuse by Philadelphia Catholic clergy. Erdely featured the graphic allegations of a troubled accuser known as “Billy Doe,” who lodged wild rape charges against two Catholic priests and a lay teacher. His testimony resulted in the convictions of four men (one of whom died in prison), while “Billy” pocketed a $5 million settlement.

Ralph Cipriano, independent investigative journalist and founder of BigTrial, has extensively chronicled the lies, contradictions, and schemes of former altar boy “Billy” — a.k.a. Daniel Gallagher — over the past five years. Last month, Cipriano reported that a key detective in the case, Joe Walsh, filed an affidavit in the Philadelphia Common Pleas Court outlining Gallagher’s deception. When Walsh pressed Gallagher on whether his stories of “brutal anal rapes, death threats, (and) getting tied up naked with altar sashes” were true, Walsh wrote that Gallagher admitted he “just made up stuff and told them anything.”

More damning, Cipriano reported, Walsh had “repeatedly informed the prosecutor in the case, former Assistant District Attorney Mariana Sorensen, that Gallagher wasn’t a credible witness. Walsh also informed Sorensen that there was no evidence that backed up Gallagher’s fantastic stories, and that the evidence gathered by Walsh actually contradicted Gallagher.”

But the DA’s office proceeded with the prosecutions, anyway. And Rolling Stone has never bothered to review or update Erdely’s article — or inform readers of the real scandal of yet another fake rape hoax and prosecutorial misconduct.

In 2013, Erdely published another piece of half-baked advocacy journalism on “The Rape of Petty Officer (Rebecca) Blumer: Inside the military’s culture of sex abuse, denial and cover-up.”

She’s a one-trick pony, ain’t she?

As Washington Examiner reporter Ashe Schow pointed out, Erdely “apparently made no attempt to contact members of the military involved in investigating the case, instead relying on victim’s advocates with no direct knowledge” of Blumer’s claims of being “roofied and raped.”

Fraternities, religious institutions, the military, and the entire male population have been defamed by a lying liar with a laptop and her “progressive” editors at Democrat donor Jann Wenner’s flagship rock music rag. All in service of promoting “rape culture” propaganda at any cost.

Too few journalists are willing to challenge the corruption of the criminal justice system in their backyards. Politicized police departments and pro-prosecution courts have failed to uphold the constitutional rights of the accused. The wheels of justice grind far too slowly for the falsely defamed and falsely convicted, fighting for their reputations or for their lives behind bars.

Juries need to send louder messages and impose strong deterrents against rape fakers and their propagandists. Make them pay. Big time.

Unity! Star Trek actor and MSNBC host keep it classy after Rep. Scalise shooting (open thread)

Sun, 06/18/2017 - 10:39

**Written by Doug Powers

Here’s a somewhat shorter than usual Sunday open thread lead-in, since it’s Father’s Day and I’ve got a few father-ish things to do. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads here! And we’re off…

This is the person who did the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia at a congressional baseball practice just a few days ago:

James T. Hodgkinson, the shooter who opened fire on dozens of Republican congressmen and staffers at a baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday, had a list of Republican names in his pocket that was recovered by the FBI, The Daily Caller has learned.

The news that the shooter had a list of names suggests the shooting was not a random outburst, but instead appears to be a premeditated political assassination.

The list was written out on notepad paper and found in the shooter’s pocket, according to multiple sources with intimate knowledge of the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. The list of names included Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan and Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, TheDC has confirmed. Fox News reported after this story that Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, Tennessee Rep. Scott DesJarlais and Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith are also on the list. All six congressmen are members of the House Freedom Caucus, which contains the lower chamber’s most conservative members.
A 66-year-old progressive who volunteered on Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign, Hodgkinson’s social media profile was filled with violent-sounding rhetoric against the Republican Party. “It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co,” Hodgkinson wrote in one post. He also belonged to several anti-GOP groups on Facebook, including one called “Terminate The Republican Party.”

And this was the takeaway from actor on the original Star Trek series, George Takei, as well as MSNBC’s Joy Reid:

The universe doesn't joke around. The officer who saved bigoted, homophobic Rep. Steve Scalise during baseball practice was a black lesbian.

— George Takei (@GeorgeTakei) June 17, 2017

Rep. #Scalise was shot by a white man with a violent background, and saved by a black lesbian police officer, and yet… #AMJoy pic.twitter.com/Qm96T90c6Y

— AM Joy w/Joy Reid (@amjoyshow) June 17, 2017

And that sentiment has been shared by many, many fellow travelers. One of the hero officers who has been on Scalise’s detail for a long time and was shot protecting everybody at the field that day is named Crystal Griner, but progressive historians seem to only want her remembered as “black lesbian.”

Takei also tweeted this but deleted it:

Hay @GeorgeTakei you deleted this. I'm sure you didn't mean too so I saved it. pic.twitter.com/QULtkyjMVk

— EducatédHillbilly™ (@RobProvince) June 17, 2017

That translates to “how many times ya gotta shoot a conservative to get him to change his website?” All while Scalise remains in ICU. These are the progressives who lecture about compassion on a daily basis.

California liberals are assisting people into oblivion yet again:

The result of one early experiment in a citywide $15 minimum wage is an ominous sign for the state’s poorer inland counties as the statewide wage floor creeps toward the mark.

Consider San Francisco, an early adopter of the $15 wage. It’s now experiencing a restaurant die-off, minting jobless hash-slingers, cashiers, busboys, scullery engineers and line cooks as they get pink-slipped in increasing numbers. And the wage there hasn’t yet hit $15.

As the East Bay Times reported in January, at least 60 restaurants around the Bay Area had closed since September alone.

More proof that the actual minimum wage after progressives “help” you is $0 an hour.

Planned Parenthood donates millions to Dems to keep them OUT of ‘health care’?

Sat, 06/17/2017 - 17:25

**Written by Doug Powers

Coming from Planned Parenthood this is utterly laughable:

No politicians should be involved in “health care”? They have a weird way of leading by example:

They can tell Nancy Pelosi personally they don’t think she should be involved in their business the next time they present her with a Margaret Sanger award.

But anyway, it’s nice of Planned Parenthood to argue in favor of the defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Because of Trump, the nation is now LESS prepared for the Y2K threat

Fri, 06/16/2017 - 16:16

**Written by Doug Powers

The headline above is how I’m imagining this story will be spun at select mainstream media outlets:

The beauty of federal bureaucracy is its ability to stop on a dime. A really, really big dime:

Seventeen years after the Year 2000 bug came and went, the federal government will finally stop preparing for it.

The Trump administration announced Thursday that it would eliminate dozens of paperwork requirements for federal agencies, including an obscure rule that requires them to continue providing updates on their preparedness for a bug that many feared would afflict computers at the turn of the century.
Seven of the more than 50 paperwork requirements the White House eliminated on Thursday dealt with the Y2K bug, according to a memo OMB released. Officials at the agency estimate the changes could save tens of thousands of man-hours across the federal government.

The people working in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Horse & Buggy Administration are feeling a little nervous about their jobs right now.

WaPo, NYT react to attempted massacre of GOPers by slamming ‘skewed electoral maps’ and Sarah Palin

Thu, 06/15/2017 - 20:27

**Written by Doug Powers

The dumbest, most pitiful takes imaginable have been offered since a nutjob who hated Trump and felt the Bern tried to massacre Republican members of Congress at a baseball practice. Two of the most prominent stinkers are from the papers with the respective slogans of “Democracy Dies in Darkness” and “The Truth is Now More Important Than Ever” — The Washington Post and the New York Times.

First off, a Washington Post author billed at their site as an editorial writer actually dropped this floater in an article about the shooting:

The system often feels unfair. Skewed electoral maps favor one party over another. Rural areas are overrepresented. Party fringes often exert more control over the agenda than the broad middle, where much of the country really is and the only place from which it can be effectively governed. Political money skews legislation. After an election such as last year’s, it is easy for the losing side to feel hopeless and desperate.

Geez, if James Hodgkinson had lived that could have doubled as his lawyer’s closing argument.

Not to be outdone, the New York Times editorial board responded to Hodgkinson’s attempt to massacre Republicans by… blaming Sarah Palin for the shooting of Gabby Giffords and then issuing a pitiful correction:

The New York Times corrected an editorial on Thursday that suggested the man who shot Rep. Gabby Giffords was inspired by an ad former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s political action committee sent putting a target on Giffords’ district.

In its broad attempt to condemn the dangers of heated political rhetoric following another shooting on Wednesday that wounded six people, including a congressman, the New York Times Editorial Board waded into controversy by mistakenly insinuating Jared Lee Loughner shot Giffords for political reasons.

“An earlier version of this editorial incorrectly stated that a link existed between political incitement and the 2011 shooting of Representative Gabby Giffords,” the Times wrote on Thursday. “In fact, no such link was established.”

Palin appears to be considering a lawsuit against the New York Times, and if so I hope she takes everything right down to Pinch Sulzberger’s shoelaces.

Terry McAuliffe’s ‘gun violence’ stat gets shot down

Thu, 06/15/2017 - 06:55

**Written by Doug Powers

When you’re so locked into partisan gun control exaggeration that you inflate data by a factor of one milliontwice:

93 million a day? At that rate everybody in the U.S. would be eliminated by “gun violence” (defined as the bizarre phenomenon where guns become self-aware and somehow commit violence all on their own) before Sunday brunch.

McAuliffe was encouraged to correct himself:

The governor’s response prompted a reporter to ask him why he was bringing up the gun issue if it was not a conversation that he was going to have on Wednesday, saying that he would be criticized for politicizing the shooting by pushing gun control.

“Sir, just checking. Ninety-three million is a big number. Did you mean to say 93 million?” one reporter then asked.

“Ninety-three individuals a day,” McAuliffe corrected himself.

It won’t be surprising if certain MSM outlets continue to run with the “93 million a day” number.

How gracious! UN might offer states, cities chance to buy into Paris Agreement

Wed, 06/14/2017 - 21:42

**Written by Doug Powers

The United Nations has told President Trump the Paris Agreement can’t be altered or renegotiated in any way just because of one country.

But they are open to alternatives

Patricia Espinosa, head of the United Nations climate change secretariat, told the ministers she intends to open the door for regions, cities and other sub-national players to join the international talks, said Carlo Carraro, a member of the U.N.’s International Panel on Climate Change Bureau. “This is obviously important, because cities like New York and states like California that intend to pursue the same direction — of reducing emissions very ambitiously — will have a voice and will be able to sign agreements inside the international convention on climate change.”

How generous! If progressive politicians in U.S. cities like NYC and states like California are willing to send taxpayer dollars to the U.N., who are they to argue?

Cities and states may be able to officially join the Paris Agreement after all https://t.co/skNk4u775L via @grist pic.twitter.com/rDk3WSy27a

— Climate Central (@ClimateCentral) June 13, 2017

The U.N. will send the first ten U.S. cities or states to enroll in the Paris Agreement a *free Ban Ki-moon bobblehead!
